Let the Wild Rumpus Start!

The Gruffalo

This week saw the beginning of something magical – the inaugural Bath Children’s Literature Festival was launched and I am here in Bath rubbing shoulders with some the most creative and influential people in the Children’s Literature…business – but wait, I can’t saddle this world with the words ‘industry’ or ‘business’ because it clearly is so much more than that…

Ella Dancing

Ella Dancing

So on Sunday we I took the girls to my friend Alan’s studios which is in a converted chapel in a cute village in Nottinghamshire. They had such a great time dancing around, knocking over lights and feeding the goldfish.

We couldn’t settle on which outfit she was allowed to take so at the last minute I said “just take them all!” It was so much fun and we captured some great memories. Makes me wish I had a studio of my own!

Alan’s website with more of his awesome work is here.

Dress: Nanny (not the hired help kind) – $0
Leggins: Newark Outdoor Market – $5
Sandels: Disney (jasmine) – Friends – $0
Hair: Mummy’s salon
Stylist: Ella Morelle (6)

Quit your company, start a new one. I FEEL GREAT!

Yeah!

Thanks for the heads up Drew.

I took this on the way to taking Ella to school on the first day back after a brilliant summer. She knows I carry a camera with me all the time now, made this shadow and asked me to snap it.

Nightingale

Thou wast not born for death, immortal Bird!
No hungry generations tread thee down;
The voice I hear this passing night was heard
In ancient days by emperor and clown:
Perhaps the self-same song that found a path
Through the sad heart of Ruth, when, sick for home,
She stood in tears amid the alien corn;
The same that oft-times hath
Charm’d magic casements, opening on the foam
Of perilous seas, in faery lands forlorn.

The Sniper Approach to Productivity

This week i’ve been playing with the idea of the sniper approach to getting stuff done. No, not shooting from a concealed position over longer ranges but knowing what I want, going for it, then getting the hell out.

Its about saving time and a cure for trying to look busy. It means I have more time to do the stuff I want to do rather than the stuff I have to do.

That’s it. I’m off!

This is near my local post office where I sit sometimes after the chaos of sending the mail. I don’t usually draw with this fountain pen but its all I had on me. I think I like its thick line.

Beastie Boys

Beastie Boys

So I am mooching about town on Tuesday and my friend Glyn calls me out of the blue:

Do you want to come and see the Beastie Boys in London? I’ve got tickets.

Um…Okay.

2 hours and 150 miles later and some shifting of reality I am standing at the front of the Brixton Academy with a big grin on my face and soon Mixmaster Mike is scratching for England. Its better in a mosh pit than it is on the Northern Line in the rush hour.

Here’s a typical interview they gave Charlie Rose a week ago.

Who killed the PS3?

“Creativity comes from looking for the unexpected and stepping outside your own experience.”
Masaru Ibuka, Founder, Sony Corp

While the hum of the fan ticks over for the last few times, the overheating power supply ebbs out its warm glow, the screen fades to black lets take a moment to ponder who killed the PS3 and why did it happen?
